AIMS:
To ensure that disabled persons in the Badenoch and Strathspey area have suitable access provision made available and to provide information for disabled visitors to the area.

SERVICES PROVIDED:
- Give free advice on suitable disabled access to and within buildings, as well as the outdoor environment. This includes liaising with the local building control department
- Facilitating training events to increase disability awareness amongst those involved in catering for the public
- Making detailed information available to disabled residents and visitors to the area.

(This guide has information on areas such as accommodation, shops and businesses, places of interest and caravan and camping sites).

Sutherland Access Panel

 


Promote access to facilities and services for disabled people living in Sutherland


Also known as:


AIMS:
To raise awareness of the needs of disabled people entering public premises in Sutherland.

SERVICES PROVIDED:
Sutherland Access Panel are working towards improved disabled access to public buildings in the Sutherland area of Scotland, they also offer access audits and training.

It does this in the following ways:

- Comment on Planning Applications for public use buildings. (Their comments are sent to the Local Authority and the Architect responsible)
- Providing information on good practice in Scotland's Disabled Access
- On invitation, talking to groups and organisations about Scotland's Disabled Access
- Meet with service providers to look over and talk about their premises. They can offer suggestions to improve Scotland Disabled Access.

PUBLICATIONS:
- Leaflet on the work of the Access Panel is provided free of charge
- Access Guide produced in 2005 informing people about public premises in Sutherland is also free, and is available in different formats. Symbols are used as much as possible in the written format so that everyone can understand.
