Grapevine
Local disability information and advice service in Edinburgh
Also known as:
AIMS:
To provide a free, confidential information service to
disabled people, their carers and family and organisations
working with disabled people.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Provide information on any disability matter, including
equipment, transport, housing, employment, holiday, social
work services and the Disability Discrimination Act.
Information can be provided in alternative formats.
Also provide information on disability benefits and can help
with filling in Disability Living Allowance or Attendance
Allowance application forms.
OPENING HOURS:
Monday - Friday, 9.30am - 4.00pm
Answer machine outwith office hours.

Grapevine Online
Free online advice for disabled people
Also known as:
SERVICES PROVIDED:
The Grapevine Online service enables people to receive
expert online advice on any disability issue including
benefits, accessible transport, housing, employment,
equipment and much more.
For users to access Grapevine Online they will first need to
register with the service. To register, they must go to the
Grapevine Online webpage on the LCIL website
http://www.lothiancil.org.uk/support/addaccount.php and type
in name and email address
User will then receive an email from one of the Grapevine
team giving them an appointment time to log on to the online
system and their own unique log in password. Once a user
has registered for the first time they can then choose their
own Chat ID and log in password to use each time they use
the service.
Grapevine Online is accessible to disabled people with a
range of impairments, particularly for anyone who have may
difficulty accessing information by telephone including
someone with a hearing impairment or speech impairment.

Linkliving
Provide a service for people who want housing and / or
support
Also known as: Link Living Ltd
AIMS:
To provide a range of housing support services - to meet
individual needs, promoting inclusion, developing a person
centred approach and focusing on user involvement.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Offer a range of services:
- accommodation to the homeless
- accommodation and support, including support to people
with mental health issues, or support to people who have
just left hospital
- accommodation and 24 hour support
- Provide a range of housing from one bedroomed tenancies to
shared flats and houses. Accommodation is spread throughout
Edinburgh, Mayfield, Kirkcaldy and Falkirk
- Provide practical support such as helping to meet new
friends, shopping, cooking, working, training and
learning.

Lothian Centre for Inclusive Living
Support disabled people in Edinburgh and Lothians to live
independently

AIMS:
- To provide services to support Independent Living
- To support the right of disabled people to live
independently and take control of their own lives
- To provide the opportunity for disabled people to further
their own personal development and professional
development
- To promote the social inclusion and individual choice of
disabled people
- To challenge the attitude and the physical and social
barriers that create disability.
SERVICES PROVIDED
- Support and assist people to prepare their own individual
plans for independent living
- Support and assist people to find money to employ their
own staff (personal assistants)
- Provide a counselling service
- Support organisation for direct payments for people living
in Edinburgh and the Lothians
- Run a payroll service for disabled people who employ their
own staff
- Run training courses
- Provide opportunities for young disabled people (15 - 25)
to explore independent living
- Provide a disability information service called Grapevine,
offering a wide range of disability issues (see separate
entry)
- Facilitate peer support groups
- Run a telephone counselling service for disabled people
'Your Call' (see separate entry).

Lothian Disabled Living Centre
Provide information on equipment and other disability
related matters

CHANGE OF DETAILS:
Please note that the Lothian Disabled Living Centre has
moved from its current location to the SMART CENTRE in the
grounds of Astley Ainslie Hospital.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Demonstration and information resource centre concerned with
the practical aspects of daily living. People can try out
an up to date range of equipment on permanent display.
Items on display include kitchen, bathroom, home
adaptations, leisure and recreation aids. Equipment cannot
be purchased from the centre but advice, prices and
suppliers are available if required.
Instruction Sessions:-
Instruction sessions are available on the use of hoists,
bathing equipment and manual / powered wheelchairs, for
groups or individuals. There is a charge for this
service.
Wheelchair Hire:-
Wheelchair hire service for manual self and attendant
propelled wheelchairs. Rates from ?5.00 per day.
A referral is not necessary but an appointment must be
made.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Special equipment exhibitions are arranged on a regular
basis.
It is necessary to make an appointment when visiting the
centre.
There is a network of Disabled Living Centres across
Scotland that are members of Assist UK. Contact Assist UK

Rights Office (The)
Aiming to combat poverty and discrimination

AIMS:
To provide welfare advice so that people are not deprived of
entitlement to benefits, debt counselling, employment law
and housing problems.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Provide a drop in service for advice, information and
practical help on matters relating to welfare benefits,
housing, employment, disability and debt representation at
Social Security or Disability Appeal tribunals.
Office is situated at 117 Nicolson Street, Southside
Community Centre, Edinburgh EH8 9YG.
OPENING HOURS:
Monday and Wednesday, (Drop-in) 10.00 - 12.30pm and 2.00 -
3.45pm (Appointments only).
